Hi,
at the Institute for Networked Systems (iNETS) we're offering a new thesis on creating maps of WiFi usage in a city-size area. We'd like to test some location estimation algorithms as well as get statistics about WiFi usage in typical European cities. The topic is quite straightforward and significant literature already exists. The prospective student will be asked to build a software toolchain and hardware setup to collect measurement samples. The data will then need to be postprocessed for localizing WiFi access points and deriving spatial statistics.
Prospective students should have a good understanding of MATLAB and also know their way around some C/C++ programming. Knowledge of open-source WiFi tools such as Kismet and of driver technology for Linux e.g. MadWifi are beneficial.
The position is open and can be filled immediately. For further questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Andreas
