Hi,

at the Institute for Networked Systems (iNETS) we're offering a new thesis on the implementation of a Web 2.0 search engine for TV whitespaces. The task is a collaborative work with other students working in the backend design and standalone research application development. TV whitespaces follow the approach to have unused channels in the TV frequencies used for secondary communications, e.g. rural broadband internet connections or fast indoor WiFi-type of communications. A nice extension to a database for whitespaces that needs to be developed is a Web-based interface to query for whitespaces and visualize the whitespace availability under certain constraints such as regulatory requirements, reference geometry or node distribution. The prospective student should be familiar with state-of-art web development techniques and build a real Web 2.0 application. Since the task is of geographical nature, we target the integration of existing GIS-APIs such as GoogleMaps or OpenStreetMap. A simple implementation can be found here http://spectrumbridge.com/whitespaces.aspx to give you an impression of the task requirements.

The position is open and can be filled immediately. For further questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,
Andreas
