MA/DA: Numerical acoustics/Room acoustics

Beitrag von ITA » Di 13. Mär 2012, 18:16

At the Institute for Technical Acoustics we offer an interesting Master-/Diplomarbeit for those Students interested in room acoustic simulations. Room acoustic simulations are used to predict a soundfield in a room (or car) before the actual enclosure is built. This way it is cheaper and faster to come to a design for the right purpose of the room. At the moment we are developing a new algorithm to do so, which is called WRW and based on a seismic exploration method.

The part you will be working on, is the validation of the WRW algorithm with respect to the room geometry. The algorithm is based on spatial convolutions, represented by matrix multiplications. The method assumes that the boundary conditions for using a Rayleigh-II integral are valid, but is this really the case? For this you will have the chance to learn more about numerical methods, acoustic propagation and room acoustic measurements. The main structure will be roughly: First getting familiar with the WRW algorithm and then Rayleigh integral theory, secondly a simulation/measurement plan has to be designed to test the Rayleigh assumptions. As last part a criterion and/or correction will be developed to let the algorithm put out physically valid results. This Master project can be done in either German or English.

So if you are interested, analytical, willing to contribute to a future room acoustic simulation tool and in for a challange? Please take a look at our homepage for more details and contact information: http://www.akustik.rwth-aachen.de/Diplo ... ghGeometry
